ISO Certification Following the world's economic development after 1980s, the structural change of Turkish economy and the conditions after entering into international markets forced national companies to develop new competitive strategies. Quality improvement and quality assurance become one of the most necessary business policy. From this view ISO 9000 becomes a focus. Especially, the public opinion about that ISO 9000 certification will become a requirement to export goods and entering conditions to European Union diverts the attention to this subject. Certification Phases: ISO certification period is for itself clear. If the production processes are well planned and organized, quality manual and prosedures are ready, certification is almost ordinary operation. In the first step the organization should start a quality improvement and quality assurance program in accordance with ISO 1994. Following that, with the requirements of the standard a documentation procedure should be developed. When the organization finishes the quality manual and the procedures and the documentation system, the next step should be choosing the certification company and conducting. Even the standarts and certiification associations changes, following matters are always valid. 1. The organization to be audited should have a quality manual. 2. The system described in the manual should be in the aim of the standard. 3. Realization of the procedures should be proved. 4. All members should know the procedures and apply them. 5. A personnel should be determined to conduct with the auditing association. If the organization gets approval, ISO 9000 certification will be valid and receives a certification document. The authorized association adds the organization to the certified lists of members and infoms the name of the organization to the certification association. In Turkey this association is TSE (Turkish Standards Institute) and is a member of ISO. After the registration period, the organizations are controlled by the association which gives the certification.
