The Deming Prize has been of great importance to quality development in Japan. The mere fact that the prize has been applied for is regarded as an excellent means of further increasing the quality level of a company which is already working on quality improvements. The application works as an accelerator of the improvement effort. Every company applying for the prize receives judgements and recommendations from the jury. These are of course also an important part of the subsequent quality work. The experiences and improvement programs of the award-winning companies also have an impact on other companies.
