Cryptanalysis

Cryptanalysis is the opposite of cryptography, the study of methods for obtaining the meaning of encrypted messages.

Cryptography and cryptanalysis are sometimes grouped together under the umbrella term cryptology (Cryptology = Cryptography + Cryptanalysis). In practice, cryptography is also used to refer to the field as a whole.
