The course aims at developing oral presentation skills. To this end, students are engaged in classroom discussions following advanced reading texts on a variety of topics. In the course students study effective presentation techniques, do extensive reading and carry out research to give presentations of different functions with mature content and topical vocabulary.

English 211 is a speaking course designed with the aim of equipping students with the essential speaking skills they need to cope with the English language as medium of instruction. Therefore, the course revolves around two main focuses: academic speaking and presentation skills. To this end, the course offers a content based approach where all four skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing are integrated to foster various speaking opportunities. Since the main focus of the course is on speaking, the listening, reading and writing tasks will serve as springboard to either generate or to complement speaking. The emphasis put on variety, language skills and the balance between input and practice throughout the course will help students become more confident, autonomous and competent speakers of English.

ENG 311 is a skills-based course which gives students "skills for success" after university. The course provides practice in spoken English, emphasizing appropriate and fluent speech. Students are involved in project work, job interviews, presentations and various role play activities. Both METU students and guests can visit this course.
