Choosing an Operating System:

  • Windows 95/98/ME and PalmOS: No protection. An attacker can completely take over the machine if you allow the attacker to run code on it. (Remember rule #3)
  • Windows NT/2000/XP and Unix systems: all interprocess communication is mediated by the operating system.
